Instagram's new rules
In
a press release on Wednesday, Instagram said that if anyone wants to register
on Instagram as a freshman, he must be at least 5 years old.
The
purpose of this move is to make Instagram compatible with US law. As well as
their own policy, it is mentioned that no one can register on Instagram for at
least 5 years.
According
to an Instagram blog, this rule will not only prevent underage adults from
registering on Instagram, but it will also help keep young people registered.
The
company said the new rules will not allow anyone to know about the age.
However, they have not yet confirmed how the company will determine the exact
age of the users.
The
announcement comes a day after TechCrunch issued a news release stating that
Instagram did not follow the same rules as other social media platforms for
verifying users' age. As a result, Instagram is violating the Children's Online
Privacy Protection Act.
The
notice also says that since both Facebook and Instagram have the same
moderator, they will be able to close any account that is under suspicion for
five years.
